Cookie Policy

Last updated: August 13, 2026 · Transparent cookie use · AdSense disclosure
Effective date: August 13, 2026

This Cookie Policy explains how WhatPhone ("we", "our", or "the Service") uses cookies and similar technologies on https://whatphone.github.io/. It should be read together with our Privacy Policy.

Summary: WhatPhone itself does not set first-party tracking or analytics cookies. Core device detection runs entirely in your browser. When advertisements are displayed (including via Google AdSense), third-party cookies and similar technologies may be used as described below.

1. What Are Cookies?

Cookies are small text files that websites place on your device (computer, phone, or tablet) when you visit. They are widely used to make websites work more efficiently, remember preferences, and provide information to site owners or advertising partners.

Similar technologies include local storage, session storage, pixels/web beacons, and device identifiers. In this policy, we refer to all of these collectively as “cookies” where appropriate.

2. How WhatPhone Uses Cookies

WhatPhone does not use first-party cookies for tracking, analytics, personalization, or advertising.

  • We do not set cookies to identify you across visits.
  • We do not use cookies to store your device detection results.
  • We do not run first-party analytics scripts that set tracking cookies.

Your browser may automatically cache static files (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, images) for performance. This is standard browser behavior and is not controlled by WhatPhone as a tracking mechanism.

3. Third-Party Cookies (Google AdSense & Advertising)

To keep WhatPhone free, the site may display advertisements served by Google AdSense and other third-party advertising partners.

Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies and similar technologies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website and/or other websites on the Internet.

Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your visits to this site and other sites. These cookies may collect information such as:

  • IP address and approximate location
  • Browser type and device information
  • Pages visited and time spent
  • Ad interactions (views, clicks)

This information is used for ad personalization, frequency capping, measurement, fraud prevention, and aggregated reporting.

For more information, see:

Common Google / AdSense Cookies (examples)

Exact cookies may vary depending on the ads served and your location/browser settings. Google and other vendors control these cookies.

4. How to Manage and Opt Out of Cookies

You have several options to control cookies:

Browser settings

Most browsers allow you to block or delete cookies. Check your browser’s help section for instructions. Note that blocking all cookies may affect site functionality (though WhatPhone’s core detection should still work).

Opt out of personalized advertising

Opting out of personalized ads does not mean you will stop seeing ads — you may still see non-personalized advertisements.

Mobile devices

You can limit ad tracking in your device settings (e.g., “Limit Ad Tracking” on iOS or “Opt out of Ads Personalization” on Android).

5. Local Storage and Similar Technologies

WhatPhone does not intentionally store detection results or personal data in localStorage, sessionStorage, or IndexedDB for tracking purposes. Any temporary storage used by the browser for normal page operation is controlled by the browser itself.

Third-party ad scripts may use local storage or similar mechanisms in addition to cookies.

6. Hosting (GitHub Pages)

WhatPhone is hosted on GitHub Pages. GitHub may collect standard server logs (IP address, request timestamp, user agent, etc.) as part of normal infrastructure operation. These are governed by GitHub’s Privacy Statement and are not set or controlled by WhatPhone as cookies.

7. Changes to This Cookie Policy

We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time to reflect changes in technology, advertising partners, or legal requirements. The “Last updated” date at the top will be revised accordingly. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
